My aunt Joanie Triestman had been battling ovarian cancer for many years when she passed away in May of 2015. Her wish was always  to fight the battle and try to find a way to cure ovarian cancer and get more research and my hope is  to make her legacy live on and continue to do the work that she can no longer pursue. I decided in the summer of 2015 that I wanted to do something big to commemorate her and to raise awareness and money for Ovarian Cancer research. I decided I should do something I loved, and something that she had always supported: music. I knew a benefit concert would be a perfect way to help gain awareness and support, by doing something I am passionate about. I named the concert “Find Your Sunshine” because when my Aunt Jojo battled ovarian cancer for many years, she was able to maintain a persistent attitude through it all. Even through the toughest of times, she tried to find her sunshine, all the positive things in life, and she was driven to NEGU (Never Ever Give Up). Her perseverance and positivity influenced me so much and she will always continue to be my role model. Even though she has passed away, her story of her battle and optimism will always live on in my heart. Even when she was ill, she still advocated for Ovarian Cancer Awareness, and helped to raise money for research for Ovarian Cancer. She is the reason I am doing this concert. She has inspired me to continue to do everything I can to help find a cure for Ovarian Cancer and help people find their sunshine.
